We can also do a studio style session in your home with your choice of backgrounds.  As an add on, for an additional $25, you can have a friend join you in your senior pictures.  (Pets are welcome, and if desired, do not require the additional $25!)

My favorite DIY Centerpiece -Thrift Store Teapots

June 25th, 2010

Fun Project Time!

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE weddings.  No, not just photographing them, but every single part.  I love the planning, the rings, the dresses, the venues, and ESPECIALLY the craft projects.  Between my own weddings, those that I’ve shot, and being a bridesmaid… I’ve come across some great DIY projects.  This morning while looking for ideas my daughters upcoming birthday party, I came up with one on my own, from a combination of photos on those pages, photos  I’ve seen on Wedding Blogs, and other craft projects for the home.  I only wish I had come  up with this a year ago, when my sister got married.  This really would have been a great homage to my step mother, Irene, who passed in ’07.  Irene collected Tea Pots, so my sisters and I have inherited about a hundred fun and unique Tea Pots, over the years.   So I made a cute little centerpiece/Table Number holder out of one of my favorite teapots!  You could easily find some great ones at the Thrift Store, or even Old Time Pottery. You may also find some cool handmade pots at Etsy.com.  You could also switch out the teapot with a miniature watering can!  Have fun with it! Make it your own!  (and guests who take them home, can use it as a picture holder…  in fact, you could leave off the table number and put one of your favorite engagement pictures, instead!)

What you’ll need:

  • Fun Teapots (one for each table)
  • Bunches of flowers
  • Metal Wire
  • Needle Nose or Round Nosed Pliers with a wire cutter
  • Card Stock
  • Magic Marker
  • Putting it All together:

  • Bunch together your choice of flowers (I used Silk Hydrangeas left over from my own wedding favors, but fresh or dried flowers would be awesome. Or, you could see some of the great bouquet items linked below!), and put them into your teapot. For added stability, you can use Floral Foam to anchor the flowers. I actually used fancy gravel.
  • Cut Length of Wire and twist one end into a swirl. And stick down into the flowers. You can also make other shapes with the swirl, such as a fancy heart, and if you’re really good at it, your new Initial.
  • Use your card stock to create the Place Card.  I ripped the edges to make it more rustic, but you could use die cutters, scissors, paper trimmers, etc.  You could also pre-print the table numbers on pre-perforated business card stock to match the rest of your stationary. (see some links to great wedding invitations and programs, below!)  I  wrote my number in Sharpie Magic Marker.
  • Place the card into the swirly pattern on the wire (similar to how you’d slip a paper clip on to paper.)
  • Place it on your table, and you’re all done!

    Adrienne + Matt

    June 9th, 2010

One of my favorite couples of last year was Adrienne and Matt. They were married in September. A lot of things went wrong for their wedding, but they were troopers, and stayed in good spirits, despite the issues! I’m quite certain, I’d have had a nuclear meltdown… but not those two. They were determined to enjoy it, and that they did!

We shot their Engagement Photos at Devou Park. (One of my favorite places to shoot… if you can find space… I try to avoid Saturdays, unless it is 7am!) They were very fun to work with, and very easy to shoot… after all, they’re both absolutely adorable! And they smile, A LOT! They certainly made my job easier, and a lot more fun!

One of my favorite parts of Devou Park, is the view of Cincinnati and Covington! I have a lot of great ideas for upcoming shoots and weddings there, so stay tuned!

We shot the formal portraits at Eden Park (another of my ABSOLUTE favorite places to shoot!). The light was harsh, and it was hot (and their Party Bus was without air conditioning). But we took a lot of pictures… and we had fun doing it! The bridesmaids were GORGEOUS, and the groomsmen were fun. I kind of wish they’d get married everyday!

Despite… the lack of air conditioning in their (what was supposed to be a limo) bus, their church being under massive construction, and their reception venue getting bought out, and having to finagle to keep their contract with the new owners, I’d say it was a good wedding… Thanks to a few guardian angels, and some really good senses of humor, that is!

    Summer, Summer, Summertime

    June 5th, 2010

Pretty flowers, originally uploaded by Rebecca Pettigrew.

Today was the official start to my summer. While the kids’ school let out last week, The Summit, didn’t get out ’til today. I slept in. Which was AMAZING! I also got a chance to pull out the cameras and do some playing. I anticipate that flickr will see a marked increase in uploads from yours truly, over the next few weeks.

I also hope to get some kiddoes in for Senior Portraits. I’m itching to get back to work, in a big way.

Summer is so close, I can taste it…

    May 18th, 2010

School is on it’s way out! Looking forward to relaxing in the yard, spending time with my kids, and, of course… the Reds! They are in first place!  Go, Reds! And all the games have been some pretty awesome nailbiters, too!  You’ll note the Cincinnati Reds themed colors I have going on here.

I went to a game with Shawna, Mother’s Day weekend, and an even with the girls and Shawna on Fountain Square this past Saturday. We look forward to a lot more over the summer, with Daddy!

One of those days, I tell ya…

    February 22nd, 2010

I am, however grateful for three things…  One, that my mother in law gave us that pretty ceiling fan a few months ago, and two, that we have a working (though not so attractive) second shower in the basement….  Why, you ask?  Well, a new and very big leak from somewhere in the upstairs bathroom turned the ceiling fan in the dining room from a light fixture to a water feature this morning while my hubsy was in the shower… while it was turned on…  which brings me to- three, that the ceiling fan didn’t short out and electrocute anyone, or burst into flames… the brightside is that Q and I get to have a lot of romantic candlelit dinners for the remainder of February!

Finding the leak, may well prove to be a full bathroom gut.. because from some of the other “fixes” we discovered, god knows what kind of plumbing “Mr. Fixit” came up with…  This was not something we were planning on… and there goes our yearly vacation to Myrtle Beach, for the second year in a row… I seriously want to punch him in the nose.  Words of advice, my four faithful readers, never, never, never, ever, never, never, buy a flipped house, and any house boasting of it’s recent rehab… because I can almost guarantee it will fall apart within the first two years… you’re better off buying a condemned house and rehabbing it yourself… you’ll save money, too.

It started off so nice and peaceful an end to my week long break from work… then rather quickly went to heck… did I mention that the XBox 360 died on Friday, was replaced on Saturday… and that afternoon… the replacement died… yeah… Awesome.  Sick cruel joke, I tell you, that I am actually looking forward to Monday.  Where’s Mike Holmes when you need him…

    Oh, blood pressure…

    February 17th, 2010

Finally getting it down with meds.  I’m on Propranolol, which is a Beta Blocker… and apparently good for many many things in dealing with the heart… mitral valve prolapse,  arrhythmia, and palpitations… but is also good for migraines…   As of today, it was 130/86, which is a far cry better than the 204/112 that it had climbed to (this high is beyond just high blood pressure, and into a crisis area).  In dealing with it, I have lost around 35 pounds, quit smoking, exercised, and started eating (a little, but not much) better.   More changes to be made, in those departments… like waking EVEN EARLIER in the morning to do Yoga.  I’m not sure if I can do that… I already wake up and 5 am (and hit snooze ’til 5:30 and rush to get into the shower and swallow some coffee before I have) to leave for my day job.

This week I have a nice week long vacation -working in a Catholic School with all of it’s extra holidays, has it’s perks.  Unfortunately, all this snow means, my kids have been home, too… Some break, huh?  There goes my “me time“.  2 more days.. and I am keeping my fingers crossed… However there is a bright side to it… my school gets out of school a full week after the girls school lets out, so…. these snow days will have to be made up… and it will probably be that week, so maybe we won’t need to have them in daycare that week after all…  And, I’ve still been able to sleep in a little bit!  Which has been OH SO NICE.  Monday is going to hurt, I think.

But….. Dear Baby Jesus,  Let there be school tomorrow… you can keep them home on friday, but I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow to have my BP checked… and I doubt I’ll get an accurate reading with the kids running around the doctor’s office.

    My inspiration…

    December 18th, 2008

My mom always said photography would lead me up the primrose path...

One thing that moving away from home does, is make you one of the last to know… I just found out that my high school art teacher, Mr. Gary Simendinger passed away in 2005. Mr. S was one of the first teachers to encourage me to become an artist.  To be honest, he was one of the ONLY teachers to encourage me down this path.  I am saddened beyond words at his passing.

He was always willing to help, when I was stuck on something.  Always willing to critique work, that had nothing to do with school work, and saw my “weirdness” as a sign of creativity.  So here’s to you, Mr. Simendinger.  And thank you, so much, for leading me down that primrose path.

    Finally… an update!

    November 19th, 2008

I’ve been super busy this fall!  Weddings, Seniors, babies, and moving!  We finally got moved into our new house!  And I had nearly two weeks without internet access!  Our new house is an old house, so we had to have the cable, phone, and internet all re-wired! With that, all of our email addresses have changed.  If you have been corresponding with me via rebeccapettigrew@fuse.net, make note that that email address will no longer work.  The new email address is info@rebeccapettigrew.com, as reflected on my website.

My most recent shoot was right after I moved with Alyssa!

    David + Natale

    September 16th, 2008

On Friday, I had the pleasure to shoot on of the most beautiful couples, at one of the coolest venues in town!  David and Natale Riley were married at The Verdin Bell and Clock Museum.  It was absolutely stunning!
